Apparitions and missing links

(Continuing on from when Tina, Yudi and Richard meet the Goddess of Love who asks for Yudi to stay back as her consort.)
"Yes" she said "You of the three, one of the missing links, who holds the destiny of humankind in his will. The ugly duckling who would be swan, one with the superior genes, who better than you to partner and procreate with?”

"Well Do I?" asked Yudi
"Of course" said the Goddess "But if you refuse" and at this thought her eyes seemed to glow with a distinctly unearthly fury, "If you refuse then you are on your own for the rest of the journey."
Yudi, Tina and Richard looked at each other puzzled, and then Tina said "that is the most bizzare request ever and not fitting a goddess, I can tell you that!"
The Goddess laughed "You think greed is only the prerogative of you mortals?"
"Yes absolutely" said Tina "After all you Gods who have achieved Nirvana, you are liberated from the circle of life and death right?" she added as an afterthought.
"Exactly" said the Goddess "and still need a companion, don't I to last me through the endless days and nights of this never-ending existence. To be mortal is the true boon !" And noticing their shocked faces she added shrilly "Or haven't you got that through your stupid heads yet?"
That stunned them all into silence. And noticing Tina's colour fade noticeably she added in desperation " Well why do look like a dying duck anyway Tina? "

Tina hesitated "Ah, well ..."

Yudi spoke up " She needs me you see, all 3 of us intact have to make it to the eye of the pyramid to save the world."

"Which you can and will" said the Goddess laughing a bit too creepily for their liking. "I am only asking you to stay back on your return. Save the world or whatever makes you happy and then be mine. Forever."

They looked at each other and simultaneously went “no.” Well then said the goddess, her eyebrows twisting in fury and rage making the 3-D dimensions of her projection go all shaky, “well then” don’t blame me for what happens next. Then abruptly the transmission switched off. Silence descended, the sun continued to shine and they walked on quietly not quite meeting each others eyes. Without warning the sun suddenly went behind the clouds, the breeze picked up fast.
“Hold on guys”, said Richard as they ran then towards the large banyan tree in sight and held onto the massive roots hanging down tying the roots around their waist. Tina found her grasp slipping away and screamed “Help me Yudi.” They reached for her and pulled her back then. The three of them embraced each other in death’s grip shutting their eyes against the elements.

As the storm continued to rage, it picked up the tree by the roots and suddenly with a loud whoosh it came free of the earth. The three yelled in unison as they hurtled through the air and trough space, the tree their rocket. They hurtled through meteors , stars, the rings of Saturn, shooting stars that crossed their path so close that their fiery tail just missed the three. On and on, it seemed the journey went. Passing apparitions of monsters that came out of nowhere, brushing them, even hitching a ride with them briefly. Old ghosts of dead parents, lost first loves, previous lifetimes of pain, anguish, war, misery and loss. Each trapped in their own private hell writhing in misery. Until completely numb they fell senseless.
