Dear
Demi,
Days
after your sixth wedding anniversary in September, when your husband allegedly
cheated on you in Las Vegas, you posted a photo on twitter. It’s a
self-portrait in bed with your eyes closed with the cryptic message 'I see
through you'.
The reason I mention it is not because this is
one of the last to be put up before the sensational allegations that he had
cheated on you during a hedonistic night in a San Diego hotel room with a 23-year-old
surfaced.
I bring this up because it is the first real picture I have seen of you with a
hit of grey at your left temple. Welcome to the roaring forties Demi! You
are after all only forty-nine. Why! Many of us (including me) are barely
starting life as we know it at this age. And you have achieved so much.
World
renown actress, mother with a supportive first husband and till recently lover
of a toy-boy who most of us would have given our eye-teeth to be with. And you
were one half of the first real tweet-ouple. Move over Liz & Shane, you
were there first!
And
you look fantastic! As a forty year old myself I truly believe it is possible
to look even better at forty that what I did in my twenties. I would have preferred if this was au natural,
but hey you are not the first or the last to go under the knife to keep her
man! So I don’t hold that against you. A woman’s gotta do...
I
have from afar envied the perfect life in tweets you have unfurled over the
years. And am somewhat sorry that this phase has ended in such pain. But you
gotta admit you had a good run here. And all through it you looked and still
look fabulous.
Your (ex) husband on the other hand.... hmmm is it a coincidence that Ashton’s real
colours emerged just as he has taken over the notorious C.H.A.R.L.I.E in Two
and a Half Men. It’s no secret that the show itself has been vapid to say the
least, lacking that certain je ne sais quoi. Then along come Ashton’s
indiscretions followed by a breakup. Just what the show needs me thinks. The
proverbial shot in the arm.... But that’s just cynical old me I guess.
As for you Demi, your last
tweet made me cheer you on even more. 'As a woman,
a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and
it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life' you said.
And that’s what we women in our Forties are. We are part of the brave new
interconnected online social world of tomorrow. But at heart our principles run
deep. So chin up and I look forward to seeing you back on twitter on your next
adventure very soon.
